WA-BAGEL by Aburi

WA-BAGEL, a delightful Japanese-style bagel shop in the heart of Vancouver's financial district. The artful process of crafting their bagels involves filling and twisting fillings seamlessly into the dough, all without disrupting its natural texture through kneading or mixing. Japanese ingredients are used to create exciting flavours that are beautifully preserved within every single bite, promising a truly unique experience.

The WA-BAGEL Club

I had the pleasure of illustrating and designing for WA-BAGEL’s merchandise, menu, and marketing materials. My goal was to celebrate the brand’s clean, minimal aesthetic while infusing a touch of warmth and personality inspired by Japanese café culture. Through hand-drawn doodles, simple shapes, and balanced compositions, I created visuals that felt both playful and true to the brand.

Beyond the main brand system, I also had the chance to explore more colourful, experimental styles for seasonal and promotional campaigns.
It was a refreshing creative challenge bringing variety and vibrancy to the brand whilst keeping everything rooted in WA-BAGEL’s signature look and feel.

Menu Illustrations

To capture the essence of modern Japanese cafes with a homemade feel, I worked with the Head Baker to create illustrations of her process in creating these unique stuffed bagels. The style is more hand-drawn and authentic, adding to the juxtaposition of a warm and welcoming bakery in an industrial space.

Additional Design Services

Some additional services included graphic design work for e-newsletters, social posts, and event marketing materials. It was so much fun being able to get involved beyond the screen with a brand whose products I love so much!
